Made in 1961, this Heywood Wakefield dresser in the Kohinoor line is a standout example of the clean lines and timeless elegance of the mid-century modern era.

It features four spacious drawers with sculptural front panels that give a visually appealing curvature and double as pulls, showing off the innovative design as much as the craftsmanship.

This highboy dresser was originally stained in the classic Champagne hue, but has apparently had a journey through black paint and white paint before I found it.

I'm removing them and getting down to the gorgeous solid northern yellow birch, with its enchanting grain. It's such a privilege to uncover its beauty from under all this ugliness, like a wonderful treasure hunt. 

This piece will be ready for placement later this winter.

I'm offering it now for pre-sale, because the sooner I know the eventual owner's finish preference, the better. 

This is a classic MCM dresser, from an iconic American furniture manufacturer, and I'm happy to be able to offer it to someone who appreciates the artistry and craftsmanship behind it, from seedling to forest to sawmill to drawing board to woodshop to bedroom.


I will not be painting this dresser. 

While Heywood Wakefield did originally stain this dresser in Champagne stain, their experts are clear that, because of the years that have passed, and the uv rays that have naturally penetrated this and all dressers that are 60+ years old, there is actually no need to stain a dresser like this. They recommend sealing it without stain, because nature has done the work for us. So my recommendation is for us to choose from sealing options, to fit in with colors and styles in your home and heart.
